June 12, 2012, Willis of Louisiana, Inc. & National Insurance Consultants, Inc., awarded Mobile Medical Corporation (MMC) as vendor of choice for the largest Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) in the history of the state of Louisiana.
The University Medical Center Facility (Project) is being designed to be the new state-of-the art Medical Care Campus to replace the hurricane and flood-damaged Charity Hospital and the former University Hospital. The medical care facility is being developed on a 36-acre site located in New Orleans, LA, bordered by Canal Boulevard on the north, Tulane Avenue on the south, South Claiborne Avenue on the east, and South Galvez Street o the west. The facility when completed will include:
- A 560,000 sq ft 424 - bed Hospital
- An adjoining 746,982 sq ft Diagnostic and Treatment Center
- An adjacent 254,765 sq ft Ambulatory Care Building
- An adjacent 546,413 sq ft 1,346 – car Parking Structure
- An adjacent 84,000 sq ft on-site Utility Building.
The on-site Medical Management service started July 9, 2012, and will run through mid to late Fall 2014. There are approximately 280 construction firms on the Project with an estimated 2,000 employees at the height of the Project. MMC's Paula Fanjoy, R.N., provides on-site medical service 7:00am CST to 5:00pm CST Monday – Friday. Nurse Paula works hand in hand with the Safety Directors and Supervisors on the jobsite. Her case loads vary each day and can include chest pains, back strains, foreign bodies in the eye and lacerations to non-work related health concerns. Along with her daily employee interfacing she also takes part in new employee orientations and attends monthly meetings with the State of Louisiana (owner), Willis Insurance, and Swedish developer Skanska and joint venture partner MAPP Construction. The hospital is expected to open in February 2015.
