OSHA's Safe + Sound Week takes time each August to emphasize the value that safety and wellness bring to jobsites and encourages sharing ideas and best practices for how to do so.

We previously discussed events that can be hosted on site to promote Safe+ Sound Week, but here are some additional ways to build on safety culture beyond the week:

  • If there is an existing safety program, make sure that it is communicated and distributed to workers
  • Make sure safety program is included in any training
  • Conducting inspections to minimize hazards and identify new ones
  • Talk to coworkers about issues that they run into on the job
  • Find ways to reward and recognize safe practices
  • Use correct personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Create a suggestion box and encourage workers to submit suggestions
  • Implement additional safety resources like an on-site medical clinic that workers can go to
